Did somebody say cookies?!?!
Materials: YouTube, paper (preferably cardstock), printer and scissors.
Main Learning Outcomes: Developing fine motor skills, math skills and early literacy skills.
(1) First, cuddle up together with your kiddo to read the story, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”, by Laura Numeroff. If you don’t have the book at home, you can listen to it by following this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCDPkGjMBro
(2) For our math activity today, start by printing off the template using this link: https://primaryplayground.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Cookie-Mouse-Counting-1-10.pdf . Now cut out the numbers and pictures. Once that is done, scramble up the cards and try to match them.
Tips: For younger children, you may want to start with the first 5 numbers and count together. For older children, encourage them to make more cards (11-20) by drawing and cutting out their own.
Now, if reading about cookies made you as hungry as it made me, maybe try baking some of your own today or over the weekend! Here is a chocolate chip recipe to try: https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/food-recipes/dessert/g1747/recipe-chocolate-chip-cookies/ (Hint: Baking is a fun way for children to learn math concepts like fractions, without even knowing it!)
